Job Description

Maintenance Mechanic

Department – Utilities

Nature & Scope of work

This position involves the repair and maintenance of all mechanical equipment in the utility system. A thorough knowledge of pumps and motors is required, as well as a complete understanding of the operation of the waste and water system.

A general outline of maintenance of the equipment will be found in the plant manuals.

Report to Utilities Manager.

Examples of work

To maintain all equipment related to the operation of the RM’s Utility system, including:

  • The repairing of pumps, replacing of parts on pumps, repacking of pumps, etc.
  • The continual maintenance and minor repairs to various electric motor, intake and exhaust fans and standby equipment.

Creation of a Maintenance schedule.

Desired Knowledge, abilities and Skill

  •  Journeyman Industrial Mechanic or Journeyman Millwright Certificate required.
  • Minimum of Grade 12 education or G.E.D.
  • Class 5 Drivers License for the province of Manitoba Is required.
  • It is desirable that an employee of this position hold a current Class II Operators certificate as issued by the Manitoba Water and Waste Association.
  • Some electrical experience is desirable.
  • Experience in operating Programmable Logic Controller is desirable.
  • Maintain neat and accurate records pertaining to maintenance work performed on all equipment.
