Learning Objectives

This course will go over AWWA gate valves design, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting. We will also introduce the three types of hydrant designs and show the common makes, models and parts of hydrants in western Canada to help identify what may be in a distribution system already. Then we will focus on establishing a proper hydrant and valve maintenance program.

Agenda

  • Proper Valve box Installation
  • AWWA Gate Valve Design, Operation and Maintenance
  • AWWA Fire Hydrant Design, Operation and Maintenance
  • Establishing a proper maintenance program and Workshop instructions
  • Workshop in the field working on hydrants, taking them apart, discussing the repairs needed and reassembling the hydrants.  Each hydrant will be operated upon completion

Instructor:  Jordan Webb, Mueller Canada

Jordan Webb is the Territory Manager for Mueller in the Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Northwestern Ontario regions. In his position with Mueller, he is constantly being trained on the latest procedures for product installation, maintenance, and safety. Currently he is a member of the SWWA, MWWA and NWOWWC associations and has conducted multiple training sessions with each. He brings with him 15 years of training experience.

All participants are required to have proper PPE for working on a hydrant.

  • Hard Hat
  • Steel toed footwear
  • High vis vest, shirt or jacket
  • gloves are recommended

Be prepared to tear down and reassemble hydrants and valves as part of the training. 

Lunch, refreshments and course materials are included in the registration costs.
