Hydraulics Applications & Troubleshooting
Friday, November 22nd, 2019
Portage Fair Board Office - Island Park, Portage la Prairie, MB
Course instructor(s): Stefan Fediw; Allan Miskolczi - John Brooks Co. Ltd.
8:30 – 9:30: Basic functionality of a Centrifugal Pump; Classification of Centrifugal pumps (60 min)
9:30 – 10:30: Centrifugal pump Performance Curves (60 min)
10:30 – 10:45: Coffee break
10:45 – 12:15: Calculation of system resistance (TDH) / review (90 min)
12:15 – 1:15: Lunch
1:15 – 2:00: Development of System curves and pump selection (60 min)
2:00 – 3:00: Troubleshooting (60 min)
3:00 – 3:15: Break
3:15 – 4:00: Recap and Quiz (30 – 45 min)
Upon the successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1) recognize and describe the functionality of all the main components of a centrifugal pump;
2) Identify and functionally classify several different types of centrifugal pumps
3) Interpret and explain the information presented with a pump performance curve:
• Head and flow
• Efficiency
• Power consumption
• Net positive head required (NPSHr)
• Operating limitations (flow, head, speed, and NPSHa)
4) Calculate hydraulic system resistance – Total Dynamic Head
5) Develop system curves and select appropriate pump and power requirements
6) Perform NPSH (Net Positive Suction Head) calculations in order to prevent cavitation
7) Predict the outcome of a system while multiple pumps are operation
8) Analyze pump / hydraulic troubleshooting.
