Distribution System Operation & Maintenance

Wednesday, April 10th, 2019

 Canad Inns, Portage la Prairie

This session is designed to aid operators in the practical aspects of operating and maintaining water distribution systems. According to the CDC, distribution system deficiencies continue to be a major contributor to drinking water outbreaks and outbreak-associated illnesses. The piecemeal nature of some infrastructure development may act as a contributing factor to the occurrence of these cross-connections, highlighting the importance of distribution system monitoring and adherence to guidelines for the prevention of backflow of non-potable water into the potable water supply. Challenges with aging water infrastructure are ongoing, and efforts to understand the number of illnesses associated with drinking water distribution system deficiencies are needed. Topics include the components and characteristics of distribution system facilities, operating and maintaining distribution systems, maintaining water quality in the system, disinfecting new and repaired facilities as well as service connection delivery to consumers.

Presenter Tim Maunder - With over 30 years in the operations and maintenance of water and wastewater systems, Tim Maunder has operated, consulted, and taught certification courses throughout Western Canada. He has been involved in the curriculum development of the apprenticeship program in Manitoba and has continued to deliver seminars and certification courses up to level four in all operations categories in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Tim is currently the owner of Janus Municipal Solutions LTD and continues to provide contract work to many municipalities and educational institutions.
