POSITION:                   Utility Operator – Permanent Full Time

RATE OF PAY:             $25.50 to $29.60 per hour

This is a unionized position and rate of pay is subject to current collective agreement.

POSTING DATE:          November 7, 2022

CLOSING DATE:          November 25th, 2022 @ 12:00 noon.

DESCRIPTION:

  • Reporting to the Public Works Foreman, the Utility Operator position will be required to perform a variety of tasks and duties related to the operation of the utility systems in the Municipality. 
  • The successful applicant will demonstrate skill, knowledge and experience in the functions and operations of water treatment, water distribution, wastewater collection and wastewater treatment systems.
  • The successful applicant must be a team player possessing effective communication skills and must be courteous and respectful to Council, supervisors, co-workers and the general public.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate and maintain equipment for the utility systems as well as performing the required tests, checks and sampling and maintaining and updating the daily records of operations.
  • Assist outside contractors when performing repairs, replacements or upgrades of utility infrastructure.
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of utility and municipal infrastructure.
  • Operate, maintain and perform minor maintenance & servicing of utility facilities.
  • Follow safety protocols and ensure that work is completed in accordance to policies, procedures and other regulations or requirements.
  • Participate in training and upgrading of skills necessary to perform duties.
  • Perform routine duties and manual tasks.
  • Assist other personnel and other departments as required.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
  • On-call and overtime work will be required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Certification in Level II Water Treatment, Level I Water Distribution, Level I Wastewater Collection and Level I Wastewater Treatment.  Consideration may be given to applicants with partial or no certification who are willing to complete the necessary certifications.
