Invitation to Participate in a Research Interview on W&WW IMP Maturity Assessment

The University of New Brunswick is looking for owners and consultants to participate in a research interview on water and wastewater infrastructure master planning.

This study aims to gather insights from water and wastewater (W&WW) infrastructure owners and consultants on the current challenges and best practices in W&WW infrastructure master planning. The semi-structured interviews, each lasting approximately one hour, are part of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada, funded initiative to assess and enhance the W&WW infrastructure master planning capacity of small to medium sized municipalities across Canada.

The findings from these interviews will inform the development of a national level survey questionnaire, contributing to a broader maturity assessment of existing infrastructure planning practices. Additionally, the insights will support the creation of key resources, including the Infrastructure Master Planning (IMP) 101 Primer and the standard Request for Proposals (RFP) Primer to facilitate municipalities. The results will also be used for a comparative analysis of Infrastructure Master Plans (IMPs) and to shape future capacity building initiatives, such as national webinars and educational programs.

Municipal representatives and industry professionals participating in these interviews should have a comprehensive understanding of their organization’s infrastructure master planning processes. Their contributions will be instrumental in identifying gaps, opportunities, and best practices to strengthen infrastructure planning across the country.

The Office of Drinking Water wishes to advise you of recent and upcoming Health Canada publications and public consultation processes related to iron, radionuclides, and total trihalomethanes (THM) in drinking water. These national guidelines provide important information and recommendations that may be relevant to your work and/or the operation of your water system, or your member’s or client’s systems, and we strongly recommend that you review the information included in each or share with your members or staff, as appropriate, for this purpose.

Trihalomethanes (THMs) - Health Canada is updating its guidance on trihalomethanes (THMs) in drinking water. The public consultation for the guideline technical document opened on January 10, 2025 and will close to new input on April 4, 2025. The existing guideline document was developed in 2006 (with an addendum in 2009), and recommended a maximum acceptable concentration (MAC) of 0.100 mg/L. The updated guidelines propose to retain the MAC of 0.1mg/L for total THMs in drinking water. Iron - Health Canada updated the iron in drinking water guidelines in December 2024. The updated guideline now sets the aesthetic objective (AO) at 0.1 mg/L, down from the previous level of 0.3 mg/L. Concerns about iron in drinking water are often related to consumer complaints regarding discoloured water. The new AO aims to reduce the chances of discolored water caused by iron oxides and to improve public confidence in water quality. Radionuclides - Health Canada is in the process of drafting a guideline for radionuclides in drinking water and is currently addressing comments received during the consultation periods which closed January 10, 2025. The proposed guideline includes screening for gross radiation, new MACs for the most significant radionuclides in Canadian water supplies (Lead-210, Radium-226 and Radium-228), and health-based values for other radionuclides of interest including radon, tritium and isotopes of polonium, strontium, iodine, and cesium. Health Canada Public Consultation - Radiological Parameters

Health Canada recently launched a public consultation on Guidelines for Canadian drinking water quality for radiological parameters. The purpose of it is to solicit comments on the proposed guidelines for Radiological Parameters, the approach used in their development, and the potential impacts of implementing them.

Maximum Acceptable Concentrations (MACs) have been established for the most common radionuclides in Canadian drinking water sources. These MACs are listed in the table below and have been included in the consultation:

Lead-210	0.2 Bq/L	Iodine	6 Bq/L

With the exception of uranium, these radiological parameters are not included as standards in Manitoba’s Drinking Water Quality Standards Regulation. The MAC for uranium has not changed and remains at 0.02 mg/L, which is the same as is set out in Manitoba’s regulation.

The Office of Drinking water is sharing this document with important stakeholders across the province and recommends that you provide comments on the development of this guideline. The Office of Drinking Water respectfully requests that this consultation link be posted on the Manitoba Water and Wastewater website to provide access to the consultation process by stakeholders in the water treatment industry.

MB Government Releases Initial Water Strategy Action Plan

The Manitoba government is releasing its initial Water Strategy Action Plan. This action plan is a focused guide to specific and time-bound actions that government is taking to transform the Water Management Strategy’s focus areas and strategic objectives into concrete actions.

We released our comprehensive Water Management Strategy on November 8, 2022, which sets the direction for Manitoba’s water future and provides a framework to conserve and protect the environment, enhance resiliency, improve water quality and availability, enhance engagement and Indigenous inclusion in water management, and foster economic development opportunities. The initial Water Strategy Action Plan is a complement to the Water Management Strategy, providing a suite of new water projects, programming and initiatives that Manitoba has launched since the release of the Water Management Strategy and will initiate in fiscal year 2023-24.

The initial Water Strategy Action Plan builds on extensive input from Manitobans, including the 2021 advice and recommendations from the Expert Advisory Council, additional citizen engagement through EngageMB, and further stakeholder engagement. The investments announced in the initial Water Action Plan reflect this feedback, and are a critical first step towards meeting the water needs of Manitobans in a resilient and sustainable way, while protecting our water resources and ecosystems.

The action plan is iterative and will be updated regularly to reflect work completed and to provide clarity on next steps and future initiatives. Manitoba is committed to providing transparent and regular progress reports, beginning with an initial progress report within one year of the release of the initial action plan.

This initial Water Strategy Action Plan signifies a continued commitment to build Manitoba’s water future, and is only the beginning of this work. This is just the first action plan and there will be more to come.

Amendments to Wastewater Systems Effluent Regulations (ECCC)

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is proposing amendments to the Wastewater Systems Effluent Regulations (WSER). You are receiving this email from because we understand that your wastewater system is subject to the WSER. As such, we are seeking your input on the proposed amendments.

We have published the proposed Regulations Amending the Wastewater Systems Effluent Regulations (proposed amendments) in the Canada Gazette I. We are initiating a 60-day public consultation period. We invite you to review the proposed amendments and share any feedback and perspectives by July 26, 2023.

Proposed Amendments

The proposed amendments would allow new applications for extensions to upgrade wastewater systems (transitional authorizations). They would also expand temporary bypass authorizations for maintenance work at the treatment plant to include releases from the sewer system and would set conditions based on risk to the environment. ECCC is also proposing to amend administrative provisions to provide greater clarity and resolve implementation issues.

We have created factsheets that explain through the proposed changes to the Regulations, which are available on our webpage.

Feedback and Information Sessions

To provide your comments on the proposed amended regulations, please use the commenting boxes provided on the Canada Gazette webpage and if you have comments on a specific section, please note it. You can comment on behalf of an organization, individually, or anonymously, and your comments will be publicly available to increase transparency and accountability. Conference Committee member Karly Friesen, read a heartwarming epitaph in front of a full house of delegates and Wayne's Wife and Daughter highlighting Wayne's commitment to the water and wastewater profession, and the MWWA.

The MWWA Bursary shall now be known as the Wayne Wall Memorial Bursary in honour of Wayne's contributions and support of the MWWA.

The Wayne Wall Memorial Bursary is open to the children of all MWWA members in good standing. The child must be in their high school graduation year and pursuing a post secondary education after graduation. Applications will be available starting in April.

AWWA Lead Communications Guide and Toolkit

New AWWA guide helps water utilities navigate upcoming lead requirements

A new communications guide to help water utilities navigate the latest regulations concerning lead in drinking water -- in particular the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) revised Lead and Copper Rule (LCRR) -- has been developed by top water sector professionals and is now available on AWWA's website. Many of the communication tools and information will be highly applicable to Canadian Utilities as well.

The Lead Communications Guide and Toolkit draws on insights and examples from utilities throughout the United States and Canada. It was developed by a project committee of AWWA members from the Public Affairs and Water Utility councils with contractor HDR Engineering. An overview of the guide is being presented today, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. MST, during an AWWA webinar, Let's Talk Lead: New LCRR Communications Tools to Strengthen Public Trust.

"Consumers need to hear from us and hear the story of drinking water and what we do to minimize the risk of lead getting into drinking water," she added. "Regardless of whether your utility has a dedicated communications department, we all have the responsibility to engage with our communities proactively and on an ongoing basis. The Lead Communications Guide provides strategies and examples of how utilities can build positive and transparent relationships with their communities and become a trustworthy source of information."

Included in the guide are sections covering:

Best practices for communications, including examples and guidance
Tips for communicating about water quality with the public and community members
Regulatory requirements and what they mean for a utility's communication and outreach efforts
Checklists for meeting key LCRR communication and outreach requirements and assessing a utility's readiness for implementation

Remembering Mike Froese

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of member Mike Froese.

Mike was a Utilities Maintenance worker who has worked for the City of Winkler for the past 15 years. Mike had a great relationship with those he worked with. We wanted to offer our deepest condolences to the City of Winkler Utilities Department as we know they are a tight bunch.

We also send our thoughts and prayers to Mike’s family and all City of Winkler staff.

Open call for Interview participants in research about the performance of sewage lagoons in Canada.

A PhD student (Maame Addai) from Queen’s University is researching the influence of operations and management, and regulations on the performance of sewage lagoons. She is inviting participants whose job description or have experience with sewage lagoons for an interview over the phone or online (Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams).

Analysis of variance of phosphorus in lagoons discharge during the discharge period in Manitoba.

In 2021 we conducted a pilot project and monitoring study on a number of municipal lagoons in southern Manitoba. The pilot project was to develop an affordable, efficient phosphorus removal system for municipal lagoons. During the research portion of the project, we monitored 14 different municipal lagoon cells, testing the phosphorus levels 6 times during the discharge period. The aim of the study was to see how the phosphorus levels varied over the discharge period. The lagoons were further classified according to how they treated phosphorus.

Phosphorus retention in conventional and naturalized stormwater ponds within the Lake Winnipeg Basin.

Phosphorus retention within stormwater ponds is largely determined by the extent of their emergent vegetation cover. Conventional stormwater ponds (CSPs) do not have extensive emergent vegetation zones due to their steep slopes and deep water. Conversely, naturalized stormwater ponds (NSPs) are designed to support extensive emergent vegetation. While NSPs as Best Management Practices for stormwater management are now required within some Lake Winnipeg Basin jurisdictions few studies of their ability to retain phosphorus have been completed. Our study compared total phosphorus concentrations in the surface water of 8 CSPs and 8 NSPs in Winnipeg during the 2021 open water season (June through November).

Remembering Wayne Wall

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of long time MWWA member Wayne Wall.

Wayne was Past Chairman and Honorary Life Member of the Manitoba Water and Wastewater Association, Past President and Honorary Life Member of the Western Canada Water Association and was on the Manitoba Certification Advisory Committee for Water and Wastewater Operators since 2011, and was Chairman from 2014-2021. In 2013, he was the vice-chair of the Provincial Advisory Committee for the Water and Wastewater Technician Trade and was instrumental in the development of this recognized trade in Manitoba.

Wayne received several awards for his contribution to the Water industry including the

Water Environment Federation William D. Hatfield Award 2007
MWWA Lorne Sayer Award 2008
WCWWA Conference Chair 2009
H.M. Bailey Award 2009

Wayne was employed by the City of Portage la Prairie from 1994 until 2012, when he retired from his position as Manager of the Water Pollution Control Facility. After his retirement Wayne continued to support Portage la Prairie serving on City Council after being elected in 2014 and re-elected in 2018.

Wayne will be deeply missed by all of us at the MWWA, his friends and his colleagues.

The MWWA wishes to extend our deepest sympathies to Wayne’s family.

Reminder - Discussion paper for proposed amendments to the WSER

This is a follow-up on proposed amendments to the Wastewater Systems Effluent Regulations (WSER).

We published a Discussion document outlining the regulatory proposal online for a 90-day public comment period on December 6, 2021. We are inviting feedback and perspectives by March 5, 2022. Suggestions and ideas collected during the consultation phase will inform the proposed regulations.

We have been hosting a series of virtual consultation sessions to discuss the proposed amendments, answer questions and receive feedback. Our last session is scheduled for March 1, 2022 at 1:30pm EST.

Remembering Glen Robertson

It is with deep sorrow that we announce that our friend and colleague, Glen Robertson passed away on January 22, 2022.

Glen was one of the original Drinking Water Officers since the Office’s inception, and looked after the City of Brandon as well as many other water systems in the Westman area. Glen was a great resource for many operators and will be sorely missed. Remembering Dale Scott

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to a friend, colleague, and mentor Dale Scott.

Dale worked in the Manitoba water industry for over 4 decades in numerous different roles and for numerous different organizations. He may be most noted as working for the City of Selkirk for 17 years where he implemented numerous projects and efficiencies.

Dale was a very active member of the MWWA and sat on the Board of Directors for 9 years. He started on the Executive as 2^nd Vice Chair in 2007, moved to Vice Chair in 2009, and was the Chair of the Association from 2011 – 2013. He was the recipient of the MWWA Lorne Sayer Award in 2015. The Lorne Sayer award is presented to an individual in recognition for faithful and meritorious service to Water and Wastewater industry.

Dale worked with ABC to help develop the standardized tests for all operators in numerous different categories (WWC, WD, WWT and WT).

Dale always was firm on ensuring that operators in Manitoba were thought about and ensured that the smaller systems did not get ignored. He always kept things interesting and lived by the motto; Make sure to leave it better than you found it!

The Board of the MWWA sends its deepest sympathy to Dales family, friends and colleagues; He will be profoundly missed.

ECCC is proposing amendments to the Wastewater Systems Effluent Regulations (WSER). We understand that your organization plays a role within the wastewater sector and as such, we are seeking your input on the regulatory proposal to amend transitional and temporary authorizations.

We are planning to initiate formal consultations with Indigenous peoples, interested parties and the general public. We have published a Discussion document outlining the regulatory proposal online for a 90-day public comment period. We invite you to review this document and share any feedback and perspectives by March 5, 2022.

This introductory course covers the foundational skills and knowledge operators require for success when writing ABC certification exams. This course is recommended, but optional, prior to taking a Class 1 certification exam preparation course. Industry related Math and Science (chemistry, microbiology, hydraulics and electricity), Safety / Administration /Management, and Equipment / Support systems are all gone over in detail, relative to certification exam requirements.

Who should take the Foundations Course? RRC has developed a diagnostic quiz designed to objectively assess an individual’s fundamental skill set that will be required for effective participation in a Certification Exam Preparation Course.

Like many of you or the organizations you work for, the unprecedented challenges we've faced over the last 16 months have forced us to grow, pivot and address new ways to meet challenges and meet our mission. Our reimagined virtual conference is a way to address the upcoming unknowns that we may encounter in September and focus on the things that we can control.

A different kind of conference schedule.
We know we are competing with your time at work, home and against general online fatigue. Our idea was to build a schedule that had something for everyone without the pressure of a heavily packed 3-day schedule. The conference is laid out over a month so you can identify the events that you want to attend and schedule them into your calendar for that day.

Overview

The technical sessions happen from 1-4:30 PM (Mountain Time) every Thursday afternoon in September. With your registration, you are able to view the sessions again or catch up on ones you missed for a 3-month period post-conference.
The other events such as the AMA (Ask Me Anything), Social Events, Workshops and Keynote are live and will not be repeated. We ask that you carefully review the schedule and block off to attend the events that interest you.
You can collect CEUs for attendance, please ensure that you click that option when you register. Every Thursday afternoon is worth 0.3 CEUs and you must attend the entire afternoon to receive those CEUs. If you attend every Thursday afternoon, you could earn 1.5 CEUs in total.

Virtual Workshop

EPA's free annual drinking water workshop, held in partnership with the Association of State Drinking Water Administrators (ASDWA), will be held virtually again this year. The workshop will provide in-depth information and training on solutions and strategies for handling small drinking water system challenges with a focus on monitoring, distribution, source, and treatment topics. We look forward to providing networking and training opportunities in a virtual setting for a large audience.

Training and Networking Opportunities

The workshop speakers and group leaders are experts in their fields from EPA and other federal agencies, state and local agencies, tribes, academia, NGOs, and private industry. The workshop agenda includes the following networking and training opportunities:

In-depth training
Technical presentation sessions
Breakout discussion groups for primacy agencies (State/Territory/Tribal)
Plenary sessions with guest speakers

The technical sessions of the workshop will include presentations related to pathogens, PFAS, corrosion and lead, source water quality and quantity, disinfectants and disinfection byproducts, equity, resiliency and emergency response, contaminant removal, monitoring, risk communication, implementing innovative treatments, distribution system best practices, and system oversight. In-depth training options will include corrosion, modeling with EPANET, sanitary surveys, and managing legacy manganese in distribution systems.

Attendees

The workshop is primarily designed for state primacy agency staff responsible for drinking water regulations compliance and treatment technologies permitting; however, others benefit from participating, including territory, tribal, and local primacy staff, water system operators, academics, design engineers, technical assistance providers, and consultants.

Training Hours

Attendees will have the option of receiving training course credit certificates hours for each session listed on the agenda. Acceptance of certificates is contingent on state and/or organization requirements—EPA cannot guarantee acceptance. Closed-captioned recordings of the sessions will be posted to the online agenda for later viewing and as a training resource; certificates cannot be provided for viewing recordings.

NOTE: We are currently working with Ohio EPA to offer official course numbers.

All technical and training sessions from the 17th Annual Workshop (virtual) were recorded and are available for viewing.

The workshop attracted over 3,300 attendees from all 50 states (including 34 Tribes) and 4 territories. Over 120 state/territory environmental and health agencies and over 240 water utilities were represented.

To support the efforts of state and local officials to assist small systems, EPA’s Office of Research and Development (ORD) and Office of Water (OW), in cooperation with ASDWA, has held an annual workshop for the past 17 years to provide timely information on a variety of drinking water topics relevant to small systems. When the first workshop was held in 2004, it was by invitation only and designed as an educational opportunity for state staff working with small communities to install arsenic treatment technologies.

In 2008, at the encouragement of state agencies, the workshop was opened to the public and expanded to include multiple small drinking water system topics, including treatment technology options, infrastructure challenges and solutions, regulation implementation, compliance issues, and emerging contaminants.

In 2020, the workshop was held virtually for the first time in the workshop's history. See the highlight box on the right for details and session recordings.

CWWA Communique: CWWA comments on proposed Canada Water Agency

The federal government has committed to establishing a new Canada Water Agency to coordinate national efforts to protect Canada’s great water resources. The first step was to prepare a Discussion Paper – Towards the Creation of a Canada Water Agency. They then began a public consultation process that has included a series of national and regional webinars and virtual workshops. The discussion paper can be seen on our cwwa.ca website here.

Naturally, CWWA has taken great interest in this process and we see tremendous potential in a more coordinated effort amongst the 20+ federal departments and agencies that address water issues. We also see the potential of national collaboration of the provinces, territories, First Nations, municipalities, nongovernmental organizations and academic centres. Most importantly, we are being recognized as THE voice of the Canada’s municipal utility sector.

CWWA members have participated in each of the consultation sessions. CWWA was very pleased to be part of a national coalition of organizations with an interest in developing a successful Canada Water Agency. CWWA was honoured to sign a joint letter from that coalition supporting the creation of the Canada Water Agency and commenting on the federal Discussion Paper.

However, with our unique perspective of representing our utility sector, we felt it was critical that CWWA prepare our own submission. In our submission of February 24, 2021, we identify what we feel should be priorities of the Agency and confirm our role as the voice of our sector and a conduit to our customers to assist in developing and implementing national strategies. Our submission is available on our website.

COVID-19 has impacted many lives and we are still in the midst of overcoming this malicious spread which has infected more than 100 million and caused death to 2.24 million worldwide to date. Wastewater-based COVID-19 surveillance has been implemented in many countries to compliment clinical testing to better assess and activate control measures.

The e-workshop on Wastewater-Based COVID-19 Surveillance organized by NUS Environmental Research Institute (NERI) at National University of Singapore has gathered experts, professionals and practitioners who have implemented wastewater-based COVID-19 surveillance to share their knowledge and experience on planning, implementation, reporting and analysis. The target outcome would enhance wastewater-based COVID-19 surveillance capability and hasten measures to control the spread of COVID-19 in universities and community living. The knowledge and experience would be particularly useful to academia, estate management, and municipal and health authority to initiate the planning and execution, or to improve existing testing programme. This workshop also allows interested individuals to understand how wastewater-based COVID-19 surveillance is being carried out.

I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to you today to share information about the recently launched Western Canada 2021 AquaHacking Challenge which may be of interest to MWWA members. The AquaHacking Challenge is a professional development program and tech startup competition for students and young professionals who want to have a positive impact on water. Having helped establish 28 water tech startups since 2015, the AquaHacking Challenge is a recognized pre-incubator program supporting some of the newest and most innovative tech solutions and youth-led startups in the Canadian water sector today. The winning team in the Lake Winnipeg 2020 AquaHacking Challenge was Particuleye Technologies, made up of students from the University of Manitoba and University of Winnipeg.

Co-presented by the Okanagan Basin Water Board and Aqua Forum, the Western Canada 2021 AquaHacking Challenge will be presented 100% virtually and is an opportunity for young problem-solvers to design, develop, and pitch an innovative tech solution tackling one of these critical water issues:

Innovative ‘social’ technologies for water information

Lake Winnipeg Basin Program - Call for Letters of Intent (2021/2022) - Submission Deadline February 5, 2021

Environment and Climate Change Canada’s (ECCC) Lake Winnipeg Basin Program (LWBP) provides funding for targeted, outcome-focused actions that address at least one of the following LWBP priorities:

Nutrient Reduction
Collaborative Governance
Indigenous Engagement

The Lake Winnipeg Basin Program implements a two stage application process:

Stage 1: Letter of Intent: Applicants are asked, using the attached template, to submit a Letter of Intent (maximum 2 pages). Letters of Intent will be reviewed by ECCC against the following criteria:

The Letter of Intent does not exceed two pages;
The project contributes to at least one of the three LWBP priorities;
The requested level of federal funding is between 1/3 and 2/3 of the total project value;
The start date and end date are clearly stated (must end before March 31, 2022);
The project takes place in the Canadian portion of the Lake Winnipeg Basin; and
The submission is from an eligible applicant.

Stage 2: Project Proposal Submission: Once a Letter of Intent is deemed eligible, applicants will be invited to submit a project proposal using the Grants and Contributions Enterprise Management System (GCEMS), ECCC’s new online application system.

Please refer to the attached Applicant Guide for further program information including eligibility and the application process.

Programme du bassin du lac Winnipeg – Appel de lettres d’intention (2020-2021) – Date limite de présentation : le 5 février 2021

Le Programme du bassin du lac Winnipeg (PBLW) d’Environnement et Changement climatique Canada (ECCC) finance des initiatives ciblées et axées sur les résultats qui répondent à au moins une des priorités suivantes:

Réduction des nutriments
Gouvernance collaborative
Participation des Autochtones

Le Programme du bassin du lac Winnipeg applique un processus de présentation d’une demande en deux étapes :

Étape 1 - Lettre d’intention : Les demandeurs doivent, au moyen du modèle fourni, présenter une lettre d’intention (maximum deux pages). ECCC examinera les lettres d’intention au regard des critères suivants :

La lettre d’intention ne dépasse pas deux pages;
le projet contribue à au moins l’une des trois priorités du PBLW
le niveau de financement fédéral demandé se situe entre 1/3 et 2/3 de la valeur totale du projet;
les dates du début et de la fin du projet sont précisées (le projet doit être terminé avant le 31 mars 2022);
le projet est exécuté dans la partie canadienne du bassin du lac Winnipeg;
la lettre d’intention provient d’un demandeur admissible.

Étape 2 - Présentation d’une proposition de projet : Lorsqu’une lettre d’intention est jugée admissible, les demandeurs sont invités à soumettre une proposition de projet en utilisant le système de gestion d’entreprise des subventions et contributions (SGESC), le nouveau système d’application en ligue d’ECCC.

Le guide du demandeur est également disponible en français pour d’autres renseignements sur le Programme, notamment l’admissibilité et le processus de demande de financement.

Pour obtenir du financement par le biais du Programme du bassin du lac Winnipeg, veuillez présenter une lettre d’intention au plus tard à 23h59 (HNC), le 5 février 2021.

Water Movement (WM) is a nonprofit venture under Engineers without Borders- Canada. WM has a diverse collaborative team of volunteer Indigenous Water Operators, Industry Professionals, University Students, Videographers and Website Developers working to tackle sustainable development goal 6: clean water and sanitation. WMs mission is to bridge the connection between Indigenous Water Operators across Canada by providing an interactive online space where operators can connect and share lessons learned, ask questions, and spotlight exemplary operators in their community. The site also provides a video learning library featuring weekly videos from expert Indigenous Water Operators across Canada and a Youth Water Leaders Program. The site runs on an 'For Indigenous operators by Indigenous operators' motto, any improvements and suggestions to the site are always welcomed and encouraged.

(Ottawa, Ontario) - The growth in the number of wipes and related products labelled “flushable” over the past 15 years has been a multi-million dollar headache for drinking water and clean water utilities around the globe.

In the absence of a sector wide definition of flushability, a group of international water experts have developed a Publicly Available Specification (PAS). The PAS aligns with the key aspects required for materials to be compatible with sewerage infrastructure as defined through the International Standards Organisation (ISO).
