    FULL-TIME PERMANENT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

    Prairie View Municipality is now accepting applications for the full-time position of Utility Operator.

    The successful applicant will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the water treatment, distribution, wastewater and storm water collection systems and facilities.

    The successful applicant must posses the following:

    • Possess and maintain a class 5 driver’s license.
    • Class 2 certification through MWWA program in Water Treatment, Class 1 in Water Distribution, and Wastewater Collection and Treatment.  Consideration may be given to applicants with partial or no certification who are willing to complete the necessary provincial certifications.  The municipality may cover the cost of training.
    • Ability to communicate effectively to establish and maintain an all-encompassing working relationship with the staff, public and contractors in a courteous manner.
    • Willingness to handle call-outs as required.
    • he ability to effectively manage operations and assets in a cost effective manner.  
    • Demonstrate a high level of initiative and enthusiasm in their approach toward fulfilling responsibilities.

    Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator Class 2

    McCain Carberry is looking for a Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator, Class 2 to work within our Engineering/Maintenance department.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Collect and analyze samples in accordance with Standard Methods, Company Policy, Environmental Standards, Regulations and  ISO14001 requirements
    • Analyze and interpret data from testing and make any necessary process adjustments to ensure compliance with environmental and operating limits
    • Understand use of and utilize industrial chemicals
    • Accurate and timely completion of equipment maintenance and required documentation
    • General upkeep and maintenance of laboratory, buildings and waste treatment grounds
    • Patrol plant to check pumps, motors, chlorination systems and other plant equipment
    • Perform condition based inspections, preventative and proactive maintenance
    • Monitor and read gauges, meters and other recording instruments to detect equipment malfunctions and ensure plant systems and equipment are operating within prescribed limits
    • Operate and maintain spray irrigation equipment such as pivots, guns, booster pumps, gensets,  distribution system and associated appurtenances in accordance with the Carberry Environmental License
    • Candidate would work closely with growers, contractors and consultants on issues that pertain the irrigation system
    • Assist in the maintenance of lagoon and facility grounds
    • Work up to 12 hours per day, including evenings and weekends and in inclement weather conditions on occasion
    • Maintain accurate operational records and timely submission of reports
    • Other duties as required

    Requirements:

    • Minimum Wastewater Treatment Operator Class 2 Certification, but will consider Wastewater Treatment Operator Class 1 Certification with the ability to obtain Class 2 within 2 years
    • Wastewater Collections certification would be an asset
    • Minimum Grade 12 education from a recognized learning institution (Include transcript)
    • Completion of Wastewater Operator training courses (Include transcripts)
    • Candidate must have strong mechanical aptitude and work ethic
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently while promoting a safe workplace environment
    • Physically capable of performing all job duties, including some heavy lifting up to 50lbs and working with chemicals
    • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to multi-task and prioritize efficiently using effective time management and organizational skills
    • Must hold and maintain a class 5 drivers licence
    • Strong computer skills, including use of SCADA, MS Office Suite and CMMS
